Women should be appreciated and accorded the respect they deserve for the role they play in society and across other sectors, Impact Training Institute (ITI) Executive President, Dr. Elias Chakabwata has said.
He said this during a graduation ceremony conducted by the academic institution in Harare on Saturday, where over 50 graduates from various professions were churned out into the market.
His averments come in the back drop of the recent worldwide celebrations to honour women’s contribution to history as well as their social, cultural and political achievements with a view to attain gender parity and women’s rights.
The United Nations set March 8 every year as the Observance Day to commemorate International Women’s day whose celebrations ran under the theme “DigitAll: Innovation and technology for gender equality”, this year.

“Women are very important. They are there for us since conception until now when we are also adults. They deserve our respect, praise and appreciation for the roles they play in supporting us from childhood until adulthood,” he said.
He castigated those who vent out their anger towards their mothers, aunts, sisters or grandmothers accusing them of casting bad luck on them after failing their endeavors in life.
“When we are old enough we begin to shun them casting aspersions of withcraft against them for our own failures. We want to salute all the women that are present in this place. They go through a lot of pain, rejection and suffering. We salute you women.”
Dr. Chakabwata urged graduates to be grateful to God who made it possible for the event to take place considering different challenges such as illnesses and other stumbling blocks they may have encountered prior to the day, and throughout the course of their studies.
He said it is never too late for one to attain academic qualifications though it is not an easy road, before urging lecturers or teachers to desist from discouraging those they are tutoring with words of discouragement.
” “We attribute the power and grace of God to where we are today. Some may define you but you should fight and not let that happen. Do not allow people to define you. You can do it. Anyone who opposes you, pushes you further. Thank God for the opponents and haters in your life.”
“I still remember my Grade 1 teacher condemning me as a dull person. Her words stuck on me for some time. Teachers or parents can destroy using words that they speak which discourage learners from trying anything or realise their full potential. There is need for the power of encouragement for one to excel and through God you can do it. No one is a write-off and beyond ability.
“We thank all the students for their tenacity to study with us. It is not easy to study while you have a family to look after, but thank you for soldiering on,” Dr Chakabwata said.
